the (non) mosque

Just outside Monasteraki underground station; this mosque, now a museum, was the subject of recent controversy about there being no active mosques in Greece. It’s another very old building almost as old as the church, though both of them lie in the shadow of the Acropolis; relativity. Beneath the ‘lens-line’ a thousand bobbing heads milling about in the sunshine. Monasteraki/Plaka is the original ‘village’ at the centre of Athens and though tourism is heavy all year there is still a residential feel to some of its nooks and crannies.
